Last Brothel on Water Street

Water Street Brothel, Portsmouth, NHStrawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #46

Here is a rare view of Water Street, now Marcy, around 1937. "The Home" saloon stood opposite the entrance to Court Street. Painted signs advertise Frank Jones Cream Ale, a laundry, billiard room and bottled goods. But locally, the building was said to be the last of a dozen houses of ill repute. The two men are surveying the land that became the ever popular Prescott Park.
