Times are tough
for local fishermen. Goverment regulations have severly limited their
ancient fishing grounds. All that aside, fishing is among the hardest
jobs around, but it is the most ancient. New Hampshire was founded by
fishermen in the early 1600s. In celebration of Portsmouth fishermen, photographer Marianne Pernold-Young has created this portrait gallery. "They Remain to Fish" is an exhibit of 30 framed 16 x 20 black and white images of men and women who worked at the Portsmouth Fish Co-op in New Hampshire.
Marianne began her photo career in Washington, DC where she worked, among other jobs, documenting the life of President Jimmy Carter. Her work appears in local galleries and in a growing number of local publications. For more information on her work, visit Marianne's web site.
