Endeavour at the State Pier
On the Piscataqua

A crew member tends to a sail as the Endeavour, originally designed from a coal ship, glides into Portsmouth Harbor among a flotilla of local ships. Cook's original Endeavour never came to America.

The Endeavour cook takes a break to sun herself on a perfect
September day. Crew live in hammocks below decks with little privacy and minimal space, but under conditions that would have seemed luxurious to the original 100 all-male crew of Endeavour sailors.

Dozens of sailboats and motor craft accompanied the tall ship. A member of the Endeavour crew was heard to remark, "This is the best reception we have had in America! It's wonderful." Hundreds of other visitors lined the shores.

The cruise ship Thomas Laighton lead the flotilla. SeacoastNH.com had another digital cam aboard. See the next set of pictures for the view from the Laighton.
