By J. Dennis Robinson The official commemorative booklet of the 375th Anniversary Celebration is now available to our web site readers. Discover the full history of Portsmouth, New Hampshire in this concise highly readable booklet. This 7 1/2 x 11" booklet is printed on high quality paper stock with three dozen monochrome illustrations. Designed by Brown & Company (who also designed our homepage) the booklet contains nine brief chapters tracing Portsmouth history from the earliest European settlement in 1623 to the present day. Created to attract local children to the study of the region's fascinating heritage, "A Brief History of Portsmouth" is a superb introduction to the "City of the Open Door." Sections focus on Native Americans, the arrival of David Thomson, the British colonial capital, the local Revolution, hard economic times, clipper ships, the naval shipyard, tycoon Frank Jones, poet Celia Thaxter and more.
