Tobias Lear V, Washington's Secretary

Lear was born in Portsmouth, NH, the fifth of his family named Tobias Lear. Related to John Langdon (later NH governor and host to George Washington during his trip to NH). Lear's father worked in Langdon's shipyard and managed thebuilding of the tall ship Ranger for John Paul Jones. His house is on display in Portsmouth today.
