The USS Constitution
at Charlestown Yard

Do not miss the Constitution Museum, a superbly designed family site. I had no idea how dramatically and effectively this museum tells the complete 200 year story of Ironsides. This building doubles the reason for visiting the Charlestown site.

Most museums promise to educate "all ages" but this one does it for real. Kids can learn to fire a canon and sail a ship. Exhibits include a copy of the decapitated Andrew Jackson figurehead, key famous battles (Ironsides won ALL her battles), an upstairs gallery, a movie, the ship's 1844 world tour -- not to mention a few links too Portsmouth, NH.

The Museum Store itself is heaven to any Ironsides fanatic. Where else can you get a teddy bear dressed to take on the Barbary pirates, a superb selection of books, plus Ironsides posters, mugs, shot glasses, models, puzzles, pencils.

Unlike these reluctant poster shoppers, your SeacoastNH.com editor easily managed to drop $100 on top-of-the-line Ironsides paraphernalia including a jazzy T-shirt, mug, personalized key ring, postcards, Issac Hull poster, and the latest edition of "A Very Fortunate Ship."
